RPM Remote Print Manager

RPM Remote Print Manager is a print server that receives print files from host systems such as an AS/400, OS390, or any host system and mainframe. RPM loads on a Windows PC and manages your print job based on your predefined transforms and actions.

Remote Print Manager

Print management features within RPM include control over fonts, margins, line wrap, printer setup, and a variety of other print features sought by mainframe users, such as suppressing trailing blank pages and scaling down the font to support a given line length. With this type of print management, you have the flexibility to print data from across the world or from the mainframe down the hall. In addition, the new RPM 5.0 Select gives you the tools to print host data to PDF and HTML and email to one or multiple recipients any print file received from the mainframe or host system.

RPM Remote Print Manager Enhances Printing

  • Easily configure RPM to fit text output to any size paper. RPM supports all fonts the printer can use. Also, a variety of host data formats enable end-users to print without host system modifications.

  • RPM follows the established UNIX model of using named print queues to represent distinct processing requirements. Thus, each queue you create in RPM is fully configurable and independent from every other queue.

  • Automatically create a print queue when a job is received, reducing network administration time by eliminating the need to search for misnamed queues.

  • Users can easily select the appropriate code page to use when printing. In addition, RPM can use any code page currently installed on the PC.

  • Extensive logging in RPM provides each message in an easy-to-read format. Each log message shows a unique RPM event number, the time, the source of the message, the application that generated the message, and the message text. You can configure RPM to log only a minimal amount of messages or high detail messages.

  • Easily translate and convert text from different formats. For example, translate EBCDIC data, ASA carriage control codes, convert SCS to ASCII, or EBCDIC to ASCII for all queue types. In text mode, SCS formatting is preserved, including font changes and character positioning.

RPM Remote Print Manager ("RPM")

RPM is a virtual printer. Most other virtual printers we've seen create a PDF from your print job. That's a great feature; we do that, too. We are more like a printer implemented in software. We provide you a framework to construct a print workflow and automate it for you.

Here is a list of the product SKUs related to RPM.

version Description
RPM Select This is our standard model print server. It's an entire printer implemented in software with a host of features to print your jobs, make adjustments, create PDF from many inputs, archive to disk, and much more. RPM Select supports 10 output devices.

RPM Elite This has every feature of RPM Select, plus it converts PCL to PDF, lets you set the number of processing tasks, extracts data from print jobs, and much more. RPM Elite supports 99 output devices.

RPM Elite Extended This is like RPM Elite but supports up to 249 output devices.

RPM Elite Unlimited This is like RPM Elite but supports unlimited devices. This means there are no restrictions other than what your system can manage.

Queue Folders This is our directory watcher, programmed to work exclusively with any edition of RPM Elite. You can configure any folder on your hard drive to feed files into a specific RPM queue.

Other requirements depend on the usage of RPM.

  • An Intel-compatible 32-bit or 64-bit computer; Pentium minimum.

  • 1 GB or more memory is recommended (probably a LOT more)

  • 100 MB free disk space for installed binaries and other files.

  • Adequate disk space for incoming data - 1 GB minimum recommended.

Note: Additional requirements may be necessary depending on the quantity and size of print jobs received and the complexity of your queue configuration.
